The Sun

I love the SUN. It's a million times the volume of earth, but only about a third of the density. If you had sun-proof boots and clothing, you'd swear you were walking on a bright bubbling marshmallow or ball of tofu. Actually, come to think of it, the SUN is, on average, roughly the density of your brain!

The SUN is powerful. Every second, 600 million tons of hydrogen is fused into 595 million tons of Helium, and each gram of matter lost is converted into energy (E = MCsquared) that is equivalent to a hydrogen bomb.

That energy, in the form of photons, bounces around inside the sun for about a thousand years, then takes eight minutes to get to earth, and the sun showers the earth each year with 4,000x the total energy that humans consume in a year, as the electromagnetic energy of photons is converted into chemical energy via photosynthesis, and then into kinetic energy by animals like us that eat the plants.

Basically, life is light.
