The 'Breast Cancer Gene' Theory

Did Angelina Jolie Make A Mistake By Acting On The

The ruthless corporate monopoly on health had gone beyond believe, while politicians are either protect or camouflage the simple realities.. On parallel, the professional emphasis on psychospiritual and psychological traumas challenge all specialists and scientist to restructure the research methodologies..!!

The 'prophylactic' removal of women's breasts due to BRCA1/BRCA2 status has become a disturbingly popular trend, and increasingly it is being celebrated in the mainstream media and medical establishments as a reasonable choice. But does the scientific evidence itself refute this approach?

Joeli

Angelina Jolie's recent announcement in a New York Times op-ed that she had a 'prophylactic' double mastectomy due to her BRCA1/BRCA2 status has disturbing implications, some of which we covered late last year in connection with Allyn Rose, the 24-year old Miss America contestant who announced she would be undergoing a double mastectomy to "prevent" breast cancer.

Beyond the fact that as high-profile celebrities their decisions will affect millions of women's perception of the procedure, likely making them more accepting of the concept, their decisions also reflect profound misconceptions about gene-mediated disease risk embedded deeply within popular consciousness, from which prevailing medical opinion is hardly immune.

First, there is a common misconception about the role that the so-called breast cancer susceptibility genes, BRCA1 and BRCA2, play in breast cancer disease risk and prognosis.  BRCA mutations vary widely by ethnicity and are exceedingly rare in the general population, which is why, as NBCNews.com recently reported, "The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends that only women with a strong family history even think about getting a BRCA genetic test –which is only 2 percent of U.S. women." But even in those in which a BRCA mutation is identified, the genes, in and of themselves, do not alone make the disease.

Despite the commonplace refusal of so-called 'evidence-based medicine' to acknowledge the actual evidence of genetics, we moved into a Post-Genomic era over a decade ago following the completion of first draft of the entire human genome in 2000. At that moment, the central dogma of molecular biology – that our DNA controls protein expression, and therefore disease risk – was disproved. Our genome was found to contain roughly 20,000 genetic instructions – not even enough to account for the 100,000 proteins in the human body!

As a result, we must now accept that factors beyond the control of the gene, known as epigenetic factors, and largely determined by a combination of nutrition, psychospiritual states that feed back into our physiology, lifestyle factors, and environmental exposures, constitute as high as 95% of what determines any disease risk. In fact, even the psychological trauma associated with being diagnosed with cancer can drive malignancy via adrenaline-mediated multi-drug resistance,[i] and according to a recent NEJM study, lead up to a 26-fold increased risk of heart-related deaths in the seven days following diagnosis.[ii]

Given this fact, Jolie's decision to have a bilateral mastectomy  in order to excise from her body the breast tissue that contains BRCA1/BRCA2  genes which are known to interfere with the repair of radiation-induced DNA damage, rather than focusing on reducing or eliminating all future radiation exposure from her breasts, or incorporating hundreds of nutritional components experimentally confirmed to protect against radiation and associated genotoxic insults to the breast, reflects a iron clad faith in the inevitability of gene-driven cancer vis-à-vis a fundamentally powerless subject, versus trust in the body's ability to prevent and heal all disease, assuming it has the right conditions.

Another common misconception is that you either have, or don't have the "BRACA genes," as if they were monolithic entities, ascertained with the black and white certainty of a pregnancy test.  It is a little known fact that thousands of "mutations" in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes have already been identified and characterized on a molecular level, adding much more complexity to the picture than the present level of medical knowledge can claim to convert into compelling statistical risk calculations and actionable treatment recommendations.

These mutations are technically known as gene polymorphisms which are naturally occurring variations of a gene present in more than 1% of the populations.  It will come to many as a surprise to learn that some of these so-called "mutations" actually REDUCE the risk of breast cancer. BRCA1 variation K1 183R is related inversely to cancer risk, leading the authors of a review on the topic titled, "The case against BRCA1 and 2 testing," to conclude: "It seems that some polymorphisms may actually have a protective effect."[iii] Moreover, research exists showing that BRCA2 mutation carriers and non-carriers have similar breast cancer-specific rates of breast-cancer specific death,[iv] and that although BRCA positive patients have more frequently negative prognostic factors, their prognosis appears to be equal to or better than in patients with normal, also known as wild-type, BRCA.[v]

Another concerning blind spot in the framing of Jolie's decision is that approximately 70,000 breast cancers (31% of annual breast cancers diagnoses) are misdiagnosed by the vast breast cancer 'awareness' and treatment complex each year.[vi] These are not just so-called "zero stage" breast cancers such as Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS), which arguably should be reclassified as non-cancerous normal variations in breast morphology, but 50% are known as early-stage "invasive" breast cancers [view NEJM study video analysis here].

How many of these women, having received a mammography-detected diagnosis of breast cancer and then a follow up BRCA test, believed that the gene must have therefore "caused" the "cancer"?  The popularization of this crude way of understanding natural, sometimes self-limiting variations in breast morphology as cases of "breast cancer" is itself a malignancy that should be prevented and treated with healthy doses of the very 'evidence' that the so-called 'evidence-based' medical system claims to possess as a differentiating factor from other, more ancient, plant- and nutrition-based medical traditions.

Last November, an article published in NEJM found that 1.3 million US women were overdiagnosed and overtreated for so-called "breast cancer" in the past 30 years.  These were screen-detected abnormal breast findings that would never have progressed to cause harm in the women in which they were diagnosed.  These women, while essentially iatrogenic victims of medicine, being given standard treatment options, including mastectomy, lumpectomy, radiation, chemotherapy, were considered statistically as "survivors" whose lives were saved by the medical establishment, and these cases further inflated the statistics to make it appear that conventional treatment interventions are far more effective than they actually are.

Given these facts, Jolie's decision conceals a dark side that she, like millions of other American women, are completely unaware of. For example, look at the soaring stock response of Myriad Genetics, the patent-holders of the human genes BRCA1/BRCA2, soon after Jolie's announcement in this Yahoo Finance article published today: Myriad Genetics Shares Climb After Angelina Jolie Has Mastectomy.

The Utah-based company, contrary to popular opinion, owns patents on your BRCA genes (men have them too). And not only that, as a recent Slate article explains:

[Myriad Genetics] claims to own the rights to any test for the presence of the two critical genes associated with breast cancer, and it has ruthlessly enforced that right, though their test is inferior to one that Yale University was willing to provide at much lower cost. The consequences have been tragic: Thorough, affordable testing that identifies high-risk patients saves lives. Blocking such testing costs lives. Myriad is a true example of an American corporation for which profit trumps all other values, including the value of human life itself.

Given the fact that powerful, profit-driven corporations stand to reap profound financial benefit from the propagation of an oversimplified gene-driven theory of breast cancer susceptibility, we must be cautious in jumping on the mainstream media and medical bandwagon by viewing Jolie's increasingly popular decision uncritically.  Consider also that women who undergo these mastectomies often opt for breast implants which themselves have been linked to cancer, as we discussed in our article from last year, "Implanted: The Myth of the Cancer-Free Breast Implant," and which only recently were linked to more aggressive breast cancer, and lower breast cancer survival rates.

What we want is the truth when it comes to understanding breast cancer risk, its natural history, and what preventive and therapeutic steps should be employed to reduce its progression and associated suffering.  Unfortunately, however, the breast cancer industry's influence stretches from academia to government, from KFC buckets of fried chicken to Smith & Wesson's pink ribbon-branded fire arms. All the more important to read between the lines, and remember that we alone are responsible for educating ourselves, so that a truly informed choice is made possible.

Mapping Differences in Two German Economies

After more than two decades and 2 trillion euros worth of investment, eastern Germany trails western parts of the county in many economic indices. A new atlas of deindustrialization shows how stark the disparities are.

An atlas shows the extent of East German de-industrialization following reunification. The commissioner in charge of improving the situation sees reason for hope.
Large income disparities between the states that made up the former East and West Germany have persisted even after transfers of 2 trillion euros ($2.72 trillion) have been made to the former East.

The investments were meant to create a sort of economic equilibrium between both parts of Germany, and, after nearly a quarter-century, the result is clear.
"There's not one location in Germany, but two," said Gerald Braun, a professor of regional development and entrepreneurship at the University of Rostock in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The professor published an "Atlas of Industrialization in East Germany" using maps to portray the region's most important economic data.

Disparities persist
Whether in labor productivity or GDP, huge disparities persist between the former West German states and those from the former East.
The reasons for that, according to Braun, are to be found in misplaced subsidy polices after reunification.
"We started with the development of infrastructure, but you only create the hardware there, not the motor of development," he told DW.

Investment errors
At the same time, he added, the German government neglected to promote entrepreneurial initiatives.
The maps he produced show that after the Second World War many firms moved headquarters and production from the Soviet Zone to the Western zones, Brown said.
After reunification, a large number of run-down East German industries were sold off to West German companies by the public German Treuhand agency, created in 1990 to privatize state-owned East German assets.

Many factories were forced to close, causing substantial de-industrialization. Where companies did survive, they were integrated into West German corporations.
The result: A map of company headquarters shows little development in East Germany. Research and development departments are typically located in the west, with companies' logistics arms also keeping close to headquarters.

As a result, industry in eastern Germany lacks the ingredients of decisive growth.
"After reunification, decisive political mistakes were made," said Social Democrat Iris Gleicke, who oversees eastern Germany within the German Economic Ministry. The atlas was commissioned by the ministry.
Her task is to promote those eastern companies which have formed in recent years - particularly in the south-east, where powerful business groups have emerged.

Industrial policy for eastern Germany
"We need an industrial policy directed toward eastern Germany," Gleicke said. "We have to go specifically to where there are already centers of growth."
She announced loans for new or expanding companies to promote innovation and support eastern German companies through exports.
Since 2005, the manufacturing sector #link:17242931:has grown in the former East German states by 5 percent annually.

In spite of Gleike's efforts, the federal budget agreed upon by grand coalition of Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union and the Social Democratic Party, of which Gleike is a member, and has drawn critiques from the opposition Left party.
"Her efforts are unfortunately not reflected in the current federal budget," said the Left's spokesperson for the eastern German states, Roland Claus.
"Investment rates are dropping further, and the east is falling behind once again."

Bloody Nasreen..

Bloody Nasreen is a 27-year-old girl-next-door from Pakistan who dispatches villains with sword and gun while tackling corruption and human trafficking. Courtesy Shahan Zaidi

Men fell for her looks and women loved her nerve..

Pakistan in great turmoil..
The Land of Purity had realized how many evils and corrupt people, not only living within, but also dominating, ruling and empowering uncounted negative consequences..
We are not that far from 2030, where the imaginable heroic actions of Nasreen will take place.. fighting trafficking, corruption and injustice..
Both the authors and the readers will hope if she is already there..
Both hold the horrific chronicles of today, and uncertain about tomorrow

I always call the 1947 partition as the most awful conspired decision that will survive and ruin everything till end of time.. Pakistan had paid the heavy price for the political tricks that was inspired and planned by early extremists in the Subcontinent.. Yes, they will never unite again.. Yet they will never rest..!!

Bloody Nasreen is a street-fighting woman from Karachi - and she’s uncovered

Meet Bloody Nasreen, the main character of a new graphic novel from Pakistan. She smokes, ruthlessly smites the bad and wears a shalwar kameez.

Blazing eyes, flying hair, looks that could kill. The main character of Shahan Zaidi’s English-language graphic novel Bloody Nasreen is 27, smokes cigarettes and kills without pity. Pakistan’s first unveiled heroine wields a gun in her right hand and a sword in her left, but her attire – she wears a shalwar kameez and sneakers – is not the image you’d expect of a ruthless crimefighter.
But there was a strong reason for the Lahore-based Zaidi, 31, to dress the heroine of his 100-page graphic novel this way.
“I wanted my heroine to portray a regular girl-next-door from Karachi, someone every Pakistani girl could relate to,” says Zaidi. He hasn’t endowed Nasreen with any superpowers, explaining that she “picked up fighting skills along the way”.
Zaidi also wanted to keep the character away from any religious activity or implications. So he chose to name her Nasreen because “it is a very common name in Pakistan, it could belong to a girl from any region or sect”. The 100-page novel is likely to hit the stands late next month or August.

The idea
Nasreen was conceptualised long before Burka Avenger, Pakistan’s first superheroine, who appears in her own animated television series. But Nasreen languished in Zaidi’s sketch book for four years, until 2009, when he shared his illustrations with friends and noticed the growing interest.
“Men fell for her looks and women loved her nerve,” says Zaidi, who chose to set the story in the 2030s, where Nasreen fights issues such as human trafficking and corruption.

The inspiration
Zaidi grew up on a diet of Vertigo and Constantine comics and says he is inspired by female-focused movies such as Shekar Kapur’s Bandit Queen (1995) and Kill Bill (2003), starring Uma Thurman. He was only 17 when he published his first comic series, Blizzard, in a popular Pakistani weekly. Having found his calling, he educated himself in graphic art by signing up for online courses, as well as a stint with www.itchyfingerz.com, a leading mobile applications and game company in Lahore.

A growing fan base
Nasreen has attracted enormous attention on social media and generated plenty of debate, especially over her outfit, which does not include a dupatta (scarf).
But Zaidi is unperturbed. “How can she keep a dupatta in place when she’s running or jumping off high buildings?” he asks, saying he wanted his heroine to be as realistic as possible.

Nasreen on film
Bloody Nasreen has generated a great deal of interest among Pakistani filmmakers, and The Crew Films company of Karachi finally landed the deal. The writer and producer Faisal Rafi, who is likely to produce the film, says: “There are hardly any stories being made into films that are set in Karachi. In Nasreen, we see an opportunity to express the deeper truth and lies about our city. It is a brilliant character with a unique premise.” Pre-production is underway, but the main cast and the director of the film have not yet been announced.

Battlefield Surgery

The romans are main topic in my own quest about Sustainable Civilization
I already know how much they concurred, mastered and invaded
I realized how they set a demise between Roman and Latin
Roman for who ever shared or forced into their Empires
Latin for their distinct ethnicity..!
Yet, their legacy had been sustained across centuries.. Till date
They affect modern timers and times..
Therefore, we have to ask: why?
Below, part of the answer..!

Battlefield Surgery
The Romans invented many surgical tools and pioneered the use of the cesarean section, but their most valuable contributions to medicine came on the battlefield. Under the leadership of Augustus, they established a military medical corps that was one of the first dedicated field surgery units. These specially trained medics saved countless lives through the use of Roman medical innovations like hemostatic tourniquets and arterial surgical clamps to curb bl...ood loss. Roman field doctors also performed physicals on new recruits and helped stem the spread of disease by overseeing sanitation in military camps. They were even known to disinfect instruments in hot water before use, pioneering a form of antiseptic surgery that was not fully embraced until the 19th century. Roman military medicine proved so advanced at treating wounds and promoting wellness that soldiers tended to live longer than the average citizen despite constantly facing the hazards of combat.

Modi-fication of India

The market-economy engineer, who win the golden post of India's PM, had started his deep surgeries to reshape the Indian socioeconomic framework.. Despite the bright slogans against corruption, open defection and... prosperity, Indians start to observe the true reality of a conservative government, after decades of socially driven others..

Certainly, he came by the landslide choice of the people; which would raise the question about Democracy itself..

Despite the End-of-History's notion that Liberal democracy is the last innovation of Mankind, which epistemically will not be replaced for a long time to come; critics are increasing worldwide with questions about governance, integrity and sustainability of Democracy..

Failed Democracy is the term all Western Institutes are aligned to fight its spread and accumulated momentum.. It represents the true dilemma the frustrated commons face everywhere, whereas their ballots drive them into unfortunate situations and outcomes..

Regretfully, most acclaimed intellectuals are exercising the herd-syndrome, following well established notions and Western-Style culture of organized pro-democracy.. The legacy of Mankind is about the innovation and resilience.. Yet, the opposite takes place through media, academia and think-tanks.. Humans will not survive without democracy, despite all odds..!!

People need to restore their confidence to be able to create another form to clear the free will from the deadly democratic parasites..!!

Rail fare hike: Modi government faces nationwide protestsIndia Today.in  New Delhi, June 21, 2014

"The Narendra Modi
government's decision to raise passenger fares and freight charges has led to protests in several parts of the country.
Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Samajwadi Party on Saturday took to the streets to protest "massive" rail fare hike and demanding its immediate rollback, saying the government's decision will lead to rise in prices of essential commodities.
India must decide whether it wants a world-class railway or a ramshackled one, said Finance Minister Arun Jaitley defending the fare hike.
Scores of Congress workers led by party's Delhi unit chief Arvinder Singh Lovely held a demonstration in Janakpuri area of West Delhi and clashed with police.

Male Abuse..!

Most people recall women whenever the issue of domestic violence is open.. Yet, it was surveyed that 40% of the reported victims are men..

We have a moral issue here..!!

Despite how the common legacies of Mankind are dominated by masculinity rather than equality; the ruling cultures and folklores had always hidden the cases of Male-Abuse.. Simply, this phenomenon does not fit with all inspiring images of Cavilers, Savors and Heroes..
Since the publically accepted Feminism concepts, the public gradually became ready to digest the changing morals and codes..

Generally, Male-Abuse is an urban phenomenon, with rare cases in rural or nomadic regions, despite the fact that women is such terrains are more "masculinized" by nature of participatory and culture of hardship.. Yet, and across the world, only few cases are there marking the male abuse.. The famous one is that Indian group of women, armed with wooden sticks, who would travel to villages to "punish" the men who are abusing their women.. Apparently, it is a unique Indian legacy..

India's 'Pink Warriors' take on injustice

"While the majority of domestic violence victims are women, abuse of men happens far more often than you'd probably expect. Typically, men are physically stronger than women but that doesn't necessarily make it easier to escape the violence or the relationship. An abused man faces a shortage of resources, skepticism from police, and major legal obstacles, especially when it comes to gaining custody of his children from an abusive mother. No matter your age, occupation, or sexual orientation, though, you can overcome these challenges and escape the abuse."
http://www.helpguide.org/mental/domestic-violence-men-abused-by-women.htm

"Amid the media frenzy over Tiger Woods and Bengals receiver Chris Henry, a key aspect of both stories slipped through the cracks: Like millions of other men, Woods and Henry were -- allegedly at least -- the victims of domestic violence perpetrated by their wives or girlfriends. Beyond its brutal physical and psychological costs, domestic violence against men exacts a cruel economic toll at the personal, societal and national levels. For the most part, the media, authorities and average citizens see domestic violence as a crime that is committed by men and victimizes women. Consequently, funding to combat the problem has overwhelmingly been spent on programs that support women"

Dominating legacies that rule our world.. Britishness vs. Romanesque.. Order vs. Emotions..
Tomorrow's world vs. Yesterday's..!!

Despite how the Britishness in a way had transformed the historical legacy of Romanesque.. It had reshaped and repainted most awful acts with rationales, lawfulness and modernism..

Romans had innovated Slavery, Colonism and Globalization
British had reshaped all, and pioneered critical changes when the modern mindset changed.. They led prohibiting Slavery, Give away colonies and turn multiculturalism into a national ID..

Romanesque keeps emotional and sensual personalities alive and drivers for fashion, entertainment and tourism industries, while Britishness holds technical innovations, epistemic curriculums and royalties as a platform for everything.. suites today and tomorrow..!!

Despite the richness of Latin and Italian languages, English holds the keys for the future..
Yet, Romans and Romanesque are charming..!!

ISIS (ISIL) gained control of the $429 million
Taliban has between $70 and $400 million
Hezbollah has between $200 and $500 million
FARC has between $80 to $350 million...

Hamas’s budget as $70 million
al-Shabaab’s has between $70 and $100
al Qaeda’s annual budget was $30 million

Greatest part of these moneys comes from charities, money laundry and drug trade.. FARC had developed the Sugar mills in their controlled territories to generate revenues.. However, Salafist Petro-Dollars are critical..!

What most people did not know:
PLO 1990 had $200 million for budget, and $14 billion for assets..!!!!!!!!
Today is a totally different story, as evolved into a State; a $4 billion GDP

International Muslim Brotherhood manages $600 billion or 70% of annual Charity Revenues within the Muslim world.. Everywhere..
This starts by the small boxes at groceries, mosques and shopping malls..
This was the main pitfall of Egyptian Morsi; when he had proposed $200 billion development dream; without gaining IBM consent..
This is an annual renewal of $600 billion.. and growing..!

There is no intelligence without data..
No more Fahlawah..!!

The Subcontinent

An innocent question:
Since partitions in the Subcontinent at 1947
India became the most populous (and corrupt) democracy
Pakistan observed 8 military coups (including unsuccessful ones)
Bangladesh keeps sliding..
What was wrong..?

The famous Jihadist; Abul Ala Maududi had great influence on the Muslims of the Subcontinent, and beyond up to Al-Banna and Qutb of Egypt..
Certainly Jinnah was influenced too, particularly in the notion that Muslims should not be ruled by non-Muslim..
I guess more lights and insights should be shaded on him, and his unspoken contribution to the Partition..
This is a key for both past and present dilemmas..

Many pursue an endeavor of falseness and awful distortion
Western Democracy demands integrity of news and quotes
This is to secure the nation's consciousness
We admire both smartness and skillfulness of concoction
This is to secure personal gains
We loud slogans of knowledge, freedom and democracy

This is how we decline and spirally fall down

The Civic State of Egypt

I enjoy great respect to the encyclopedic personality of Dr. Tareq Heggy, who has remarkable professional, public and intellectual records.. One of his greatest achievements is his unshakable distance from any public appointments; in order to maintain his own freedom and engagements.. He marks a situation on the contrary of most intellectuals who assume their skills are the sole eligibility to manage or rule..

This enlightening lecture; which summarizes his overall intellectual landscape and rationales; shades lots of lights on:
  • Contemporary evolution of the Egyptian State
  • Framework of the Civic State
  • Competitiveness of the Political Islam
  • Dynamics of Regional and International Politics

Being a liberal is enough and great for the recent time zone; whereas the Egyptian public needs neutral guidance to reestablish their own state and modernize their frameworks; enabling a breakthrough towards the future..

Being cordially attached to the foundations of Western democracies and civic order, enables to draw a roadmap for the threshold for Egyptian gears.. As once headed the conglomerate Shell-Egypt, he is will versed about international business and economies, which are essential for any visions and planning..

Being a London resident for the last 20 years; had enabled him to continuously challenge his own capacities and epistemic contents, apart from any oppressions or obsession.. Yet, the professional contacts had enabled him greater marketing and intellectual engagements, which adequately fuel his energy, exposures and productivity..

Although, I do disagree with him on the positioning of Islam in the Civic State; yet I understands his source of misalignment; which condemns both capacity and eligibility of Today's Muslims to intellectually discover and executively draw a roadmap for rational implementations..
