He describes it as: “Egypt today, after the success of our revolution, needs all of us to give from our souls to rebuild it and to compensate the last decades when it has been left behind and came last at the developed countries queue. We, as architects, have a major responsibility towards our country, our cities and our people..”
I commented:
It is a nice idea, but allow me to advise..
The professional problem is not the architecture.. There are many good ones, who scored on all levels, locally, regionally and internationally.. The problem comes from the urban planning, which is simply no standards, no vision, and no sociocultural integration.. Some ones will come to fiercely defend what they are doing, yet, you may defeat their argument by any browsing.. Everyone would follow the master plans, not the other-way-around.. Therefore, Egyptian architects should stand firm, requesting the update of mater planning profession, activate the code of conduction vide their leagues, and campaign to face-lift the cities, old or new.. All should fit with a vision, which allows for people to protest without crippling the traffic.. Call it: A National Mall in Every City..!!
I guess in Cairo it should be created between Ramsis & Ghamrah Stations, replacing the ugly old rail tracks, adding value to the surrounding districts, and reachable from all directions.. Only need to lay under the metro track for this 1.5 km, or leave it as a security barriers..!!!!
