Colorism

Among my FB friends; Adam, Kathleen, Wendy and John; there was a debate initiated by Adam on how we perceive or deal with skin colors.. It was Interesting topic; and further interesting debate..

There are issues where the collective sub-consciousness drives and controls, regardless how smart or knowledgeable we are.. Among appreciation of Shem, comfort of Japheth and curse of Ham; the human identity had partially been structured.. Certainly intelligence had ruled out many insignificant issues to pave the path for civilization; yet some are irresistible to totally-free the sub-consciousness.. These impliedly define actions, quotes and/or glimpses that interpret how comfortable we are within our own skin, or with the skin of others..

I partially agree with Adam, as Islam had establish the fight against colorism; although how won or lost the war is controversial.. I agree with Wendy that look through the color would ignore the color not the colored.. I agree with Kathleen that color is an established fact that rules many aspects of communications.. However, I believe what John does with his kids is the breakthrough, but required to be global with Archbishop Desmond Tutu to manage..!

The children of Shem were: Elam, Asshur, Aram, Arpachshad and Lud, in addition to daughters.
Abraham, the patriarch of the Hebrews and Arabs, was one of the descendants of Arpachshad.

(The 1st century historian Flavius Josephus, among many others, recounted the tradition that these five sons were the progenitors of the nations of Elam, Assyria, Syria, Chaldea, and Lydia, respectively)

The children of Japheth were seven: Gomer, Magog, Tiras, Javan, Meshech, Tubal, and Madai.
Gomer: fathered Armenians, Cimmerians, Scythians, Cimbri, Welsh (Cymru), Irish, Germans, Huns, Franks, and Turks.
Magog: fathered Scythians, Slavs, Mongols, Hungarians (Magyar), Irish, Finns, Pamiris, and Pashtuns
Madai: fathered Medes, Indo-Iranians, Mitanni, Mannai, Persian, Tajiks, Balochis, Talishis, Mazandaris, Sengesaris and Tati.
Javan: fathered Greeks (Ionians)
Tubal: fathered Tabal, Tibareni, Georgians, Italics, Iberians, and Basques
Tiras: fathered Thracians, Getae, Goths, Jutes, Teutons, and Etruscans
Meshech: fathered Phrygians, Illyrians, Caucasian Iberia, Russians, and Georgians

(According to the Book of Jubilees (10:35-36), Madai had married a daughter of Shem, and preferred to live among Shem's descendants, rather than dwell in Japheth's allotted inheritance beyond the Black Sea; so he begged his brothers-in-law, Elam, Asshur and Arphaxad, until he finally received from them the land that was named after him, Media)

The children of Ham were four: Canaan, Mizraim, Cush and Phut
Canaan fathered the Canaanites,
Mizraim fathered the Egyptians,
Cush the Cushites, and
Phut the Libyans.

  1. Many years ago, I had crossed the bridges among skin colors, races and cultures.. I feel the humanity within each individual rather than the individualism within humanity.. Unconditionally, I accept the other, realizing that she/he will never believe it till we come to a challenge; even so, skeptics will rule..!!

With a Minority/Giotto syndrome; maybe my skin color was the motivator to work harder and excel.. Maybe the skin color was the catalyst, which in my case to become more content, while others are more violent.. Maybe it turns me to investigate deeper, while others would emotionally surface..

As the genetic light-sensitivity make colors more aggressive; I share my skin-kin the likeness of dawn, dusk, dark.. People in color are more active, content and productive in these “3-Ds”; therefore they do not fit for the day-time employment, socialization or picnic..!!

Yes, my skin color still a great barrier, which I bitterly learned to live with.. Terms of equality are not sacred as said.. In most cases; I can’t win the woman I like; as been color-ly-rejected by some Blonds, Asians, and Arabs as well.. In repeated cases, the Boss was color-ly-hesitant to take me on board.. In out-numbered cases, the Client color-ly-suspected my efficiency to handle his file..

For me; Color alike Religion.. Your beliefs are only yours, while sharing life with others.. You believe in yours, while not necessarily to preach it to others.. However, if they accept your color, they will never be colored.. Therefore, most intellectual people of color share that feeling of being strangely alone..!!
