Al-Shohooh

The name of this dance is “Nadb’a” or “Barz'a”, a type of folk customs of the tribes of “Al-Shohooh”. They inhabit the mountainous Oman-UAE border at Musandam. They have a strange language; which is a mixture between Persian, Arabic and English. It is difficult for any foreigner to understand.

The “Nadb’a” is the habits of “Al-Shohooh”, whereas of long standing man among a circle of young men. Then he proceeds with the launch of cries of sequence similar to the howling of a wolf, while raising his arms up adjacent to his forehead and keep it on hold. Then he calls a sequence of words can’t be decrypted. The cries look like cries of consecutive, which is an ancient tradition as a way to warn an attack from neighboring tribes in ancient times.

Certainly, the Protégées had felt some discomfort from these cries while tried to invade their land in 1850th.

Over the time cries had turned into a tradition done by the guest, as an expression of thanks to the generosity of his hosts. Later; it turned to a tradition practiced in weddings and receptions.

  1. I had been directed to the clip by my ex-colleague, Iyad Alsaka, a Syrian Dutch architect.. The Arabic title of the clips means: “You can’t hold your laugh when you watch..”.. Another ex-colleague, Khaled Basaeed, an Emirati Architect, had felt a pain and friendly blamed Iyad on accepting such a insult to UAE heritage.. I could not hold it, but to remember the ears I had spent bringing the local heritage of Dubai and UAE to front pages, preserving the culture and pass the knowledge on how to respect the historical built monuments.. I also remembered, how much efforts I sincerely put.. How a legal case been fabricated against me due to personal envy, jealousy and priddism.. !!
I can understand that people would compete for the present or the future.. But to fight over history.. it sounds extremely insane..
I do not know how to practically hate a person.. yet I do not know how to totally forgive..!!

  2. I wanted to tell Khaled.. If someone would laugh on your heritage, this may retaliates for another; who been faithful for it, yet some of your native laughed, conspired and hurt without care..!
I would challenge many of UAE nationals on their own heritage, whom they do not know, respect or protect.. Maybe they hold features, but the cores are not intact anymore.. They face greater potential risk than they estimate.. They face the rapidly vanishing distinction in today’s materialsim and greed..
When people give up the authentic morals of their culture.. Simply: Forget it..!!

  3. Azizi.. Alshohooh were not sailors nor pirates.. They were farmers in tiny fram-plots among the mountains.. Pirates often act stealthly not using the loud Nad'ba.. In addition, they had lived on mountians not on sea-shores.. The British had fought AlQawaseem not Alshohooh..

  5. Arabs, Muslims and all human-beings needs to know each other much better.. Folklore is often funny for foreigners, yet critical material for hostilities or friendship among nations..!
