Certainly, Ethiopia had beaten both Egypt and Sudan on the debate at the Security Council on GRED on July 9th.. Despite all Egypt's claims that had spread across the world, and forcing Sudan to support and second; the simple logic and data that Ethiopian Water Resources Minster had provided were more convincing, rational and practical than EgyptoSudanese Alliance had made..
In Principle, it was incorrect move by Egypt, since the times of Sadat, to threaten to use their military powers to interrupt and defuse Ethiopian plans and projects.. The latest backlash at the Security Council may will cost Mr. Shokry his position, as had promoted Egypt among the world as irrational, stubborn and narcissist..
Apparently, the Sudanese Party was confused between technical analysis and political one, whereas statements from Ministers of Water Resources and Foreign Affairs were contradicting.. However; the decrease of volume of the annual floods will reduce the risks the paralyzed government would confront for the coming years..!
Ethiopia had simplified the matter into development necessity of mostly unprivileged population; which will not hold the water post filling the GRED, but generate electricity that is needed to across the poverty traps.. Engineering and technical data support Ethiopia's claims against the false ones on desertification, thirst and hydro instability..
This was reflected in the global celebration of Dr. Bekele speech that rebutted both Egypt's Shokry and Sudan's AlMahdi, who had used eloquent and literature words to describe technical contradictions..!
It is a heartbreaking how a wonderful exciting history among these nations is spoiled by corrupt politics and irresponsible media
Dr. Eng. Sileshi Bekele, Ethiopian Minister for Water Resources; speaking at the Security Council/United Nations on Ethiopian GRED
July 8, 2021
"... perhaps I'm the first Water Minister addressing the August body on hydro-electric dam that is under scrutiny in the unprecedented and unfair manner here at the Security Counsel."
"For the first time since its establishment this council is being asked to pronounce itself in a water development project.
The security council is faced with a question to determine whether or not Ethiopians have the right to utilize the Nile River. On Behalf of all Ethiopians I implore our friends in this council and in this wider international community to answer this question. Do Ethiopians have the right to drink from the Nile? "
"It is after all a hydropower project, not a nuclear plant; it is not new phenomena neither in Africa nor in the globe"
"Egypt and Sudan, I urge you to understand that the solution to the dispute on GERD will not come from the United Nations Security Council but from the good faith among us!!
