Human Ovulation

 

Dr Jacques Donnez was the first person to (accidentally) witness human ovulation with the naked eye in 2008.
The starting point of every human life was observed during a hysterectomy at UCL in Brussels.
Because ovulation happens so infrequently (13 times per year in the average woman), happens rather quickly (maximum 15 minutes from beginning to end), and because we never know for sure when ovulation will exactly take place, it has been very difficult to clearly photograph or film this event.

سألت إحدى الطالبات عالمة الأنثروبولوجيا مارغريت ميد ذات مرة عما تعتبره أول علامة على الحضارة في ثقافة ما. توقعت الطالبة أن تتحدث عالمة الأنثروبولوجيا عن الفؤوس أو الأواني الفخارية أو الأحجار ، لكن قالت ميد إن أول علامة على الحضارة في ثقافة قديمة هي إثبات وجود شخص شفي من كسر في عظم الفخذ.
أوضحت ميد أنه في مملكة الحيوان ، إذا كسرت ساقك ، تموت. لا يمكنك الهروب من الخطر ، أو الذهاب إلى النهر لشرب الماء ، أو الصيد لإطعامك. تصبح لحمًا طازجًا للحيوانات المفترسة. لا ينجو أي حيوان من ساقه المكسورة لفترة كافية لشفاء العظم. إن كسر عظم الفخذ الذي تم شفاؤه دليل على أن شخصًا ما قضى وقتًه في البقاء مع الشخص الذي سقط ، وجبره ، ووضع الشخص في مكان آمن واعتنى به حتى تعافى. So in summary, the points on a sphere can all be described by the Pythagorean theorem in three dimensions, such that R remains the same, but X, Y, and Z all vary as you move around the sphere. Einstein’s great insight was to generalize this to four dimensions, with the fourth dimension being time. ]
Now, if we take Einstein’s equations and then rotate space into time and time into space, the equations remain the same. This means that the three dimensions of space are now joined with the dimension of time, T, which becomes the fourth dimension. Einstein showed that the quantity X2 + Y2 + Z2 − T2 (with time expressed in certain units) remains the same, which is a modified version of the Pythagorean theorem in four dimensions. (Notice that the time coordinate has an additional minus sign. This means that although relativity is invariant under rotations in four dimensions, the time dimension is treated slightly differently from the other three spatial dimensions.) So Einstein’s equations are symmetric in four dimensions.”

هذه صورة الجماعية أخذت في أكتوبر 1927 في مؤتمر سولفاي للفيزياء في بروكسل، تضم عدداً كبيراً من علماء با...رزين غيروا مجرى التاريخ و تدين لهم البشرية اليوم بهذه الطفرة الهائلة في العلوم و نمط الحياة المعاصرة.
دعونا الآن نستعرض أسماء العلماء الظاهرين في الصورة، و نبدأ بالصف الأول من اليسار بالعالم (لانغمور إيرفنغLangmuir Irving) ويحمل الرقم (1)، وهو عالم كيميائي أمريكي من مواليد 1881، حصل على جائزة نوبل عام 1932في كيمياء السطوح، و يعود له الفضل باختراع المصباح ذي الشريط التنغستوني المملوء بالغاز الخامل، و هو أول من استعمل الهيدروجين الذري في اللحام، و له نظرية ذرية مسجلة بإسمه بالإشتراك مع العالم (لويس Lewis)، و ابتكر طريقة لتصوير الفيروسات بواسطة الطبقة وحيدة الجزيئات، و كانت وفاته عا1957.
يأتي بعده في الصف الأول من اليسار العالم (ماكس بلانك Max Plank)، ويحمل الرقم (2)، وهو عالم ألماني من مواليد 1858 يعود له الفضل الأكبر في تأسيس نظرية الكم، و يعد من أشهر علماء القرن العشرين، و كانت وفاته عام 1947.

تأتي بعده العالمة البولندية الأصل (مدام كوري Marie Sklodovska)، وتحمل الرقم (3)، وهي من مواليد 1867، عالمة في الفيزياء والكيمياء، اكتسبت الجنسية الفرنسية بعد زواجها من العالم (بيير كوري)، تعد من رواد فيزياء الإشعاع، و أول من حصل على جائزة نوبل مرتين، مرة في الفيزياء و مرة في الكيمياء، و هي المرأة الأولى التي تحصل على هذه الجائزة، و الأولى التي تحصل عليها في مجالين مختلفين، و كانت وفاتها عام 1934.
يأتي بعدها العالم الهولندي (هندريك أنتون لورنتس Hendrek Antoon Lorentz)، و يحمل الرقم (4)، و هو من مواليد 1853، حصل على جائزة نوبل في الفيزياء عام 1902 مع (بيتر زيمان)، و هو أول من وضع معادلات التحويل التي اعتمد عليها آينشتاين في وصف الفراغ و الزمن، و له اكتشافات كثيرة في المجال الكهرومغناطيسي، و كانت وفاته عام1928.
أما الشخص الخامس في التسلسل، و الذي يجلس في المقدمة، و يتوسط الجميع، فهو الفيزيائي الألماني الفذ، و
الموسيقي المبدع، و الرياضي اللامع، (ألبرت آينشتاين Albert Einstein)، المولود في ألمانيا عام 1879، و هو أبو النظرية النسبية، حاز عام 1921 على جائزة نوبل في الفيزياء، و له بحوث كثيرة في ميكانيكا الكم، و تكافؤ المادة و الطاقة، عرفه الناس بذكائه المفرط، حتى أصبحت كلمة (آينشتاين) مرادفة للعبقرية، كانت وفاته في أمريكا عام 1955.
و يجلس إلى يساره العالم الفيزيائي (بيير لانغفن Pierre Langevin)، ويحمل الرقم (6)، ولد في فرنسا عام1872، كان من خيرة العلماء الذين درسوا الموجات الصوتية، و يعود له الفضل باختراع أجهزة السونار. كانت وفاته في فرنسا عام 1946.
يأتي بعده العالم الفيزيائي السويسري (تشارلس يوجين جاي Charles Eugene Guye)، و يحمل الرقم (7)، ولد عام 1866، كان ألبرت آينشتاين من الذين تتلمذوا على يده، تخصص في الفيزياء الذرية، و له فيها أكثر من 200 ورقة بحثية، ذاع صيته بين الناس بعد أن أثبت مختبرياً بأنه لا وجود للصدفة في خلق الطبيعة، و أن الله وحده هو الخالق المبدع المدبر، كانت وفاته عام 1942.
يأتي بعده العالم الاسكتلندي (تشارلس توماس ريس ويلسون C.T.R. Wilson) و يحمل الرقم (8)، ولد عام1869، و حصل على جائزة نوبل في الفيزياء عام 1927 لاختراعه الغرفة الغيمية، و كانت وفاته عام 1959.
أما الجالس في طرف الصورة و يحمل الرقم (9) فهو العالم الفيزيائي الإنجليزي البارع (أوين وليانز ريتشاردسون Owen W. Richardson)، ولد عام 1879، و كانت وفاته عام 1959، و حصل على جائزة نوبل في الفيزياء عام 1928 لنجاحه في صياغة قانون الإنبعاث الحراري.
ثم نتعرف على الجالسين في الصف الثاني، و نبدأ من اليسار بالتسلسل رقم (10)، و هو العالم (بيتر ديبي Peter Debye)، المولود في هولندا عام 1884، و الحاصل على جائزة نوبل في الكيمياء عام 1936، و كانت وفاته في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية عام 1966.
ثم يأتي بعده العالم الدنماركي الكبير (مارتن كنودسن Martin Knodson)، ويحمل الرقم (11)، ولد عام 1871، و يعود له الفضل في صياغة ما يسمى برقم كنودسن، و يرمز له (Kn)، و هو رقم لا بعدي (لبس له أبعاد ) يعرف على أنه يمثل نسبة المجال الوسطي الحر للجزيئات إلى طول فيزيائي معين في الأوساط المائعة، و كانت وفاته عام 1949.
و يجلس إلى جانبه العالم الاسترالي (وليم لورنس براغ W. Lawrence Bragg) ، و يحمل الرقم (12)، و هو مولود عام 1890، و حاصل على جائزة نوبل في الفيزياء عام 1915 بالاشتراك مع (وليم هنري براغ)، و كانت وفاته عام1971.
يأتي بعده العالم الفيزيائي الهولندي (هانز كرامرز Hans Kramers)، و يحمل الرقم (13)، و هو من مواليد عام1894، و كانت وفاته عام 1952.
و يجلس إلى جانبه العالم الانجليزي الشاب (Pual Direc)، و يحمل الرقم (14)خلف آينشتاين تماماُ، و هو أصغر المشاركين سناً، ولد عام 1902، و كان عمره (25) عاماً عندما شارك في المؤتمر، حصل على جائزة نوبل عام 1933 بالاشتراك مع العالم (إروين شرودنغر)، لوضعه صياغات جديدة لنظرية الكم، و كانت وفاته في فلوريدا عام 1984.
يليه عالم الفيزياء الأمريكي (آرثر كومبتون Arthur Compton)، ويحمل الرقم (15)، و هو من مواليد 1892، حصل على جائزة نوبل في الفيزياء عام 1927 عن اكتشافه تأثير كومبتون، و كانت وفاته عام 1962.
يليه العالم الفرنسي الكبير (الأمير لوي دي بروي Louise de Broglie)، و يحمل الرقم (16)، ولد عام 1892، و تخصص في الفيزياء و برع فيها، و كان من المقربين لآينشتاين، حصل عام 1929 على جائزة نوبل في الفيزياء، و تولى منصب سكرتير الأكاديمية الفرنسية للعلوم، ساهم في تطوير نظرية الكم، و اخترع المجهر الالكتروني، و كانت وفاته عام 1987.
يأتي بعده العالم الألماني (ماكس بورن Max Born)، و يحمل الرقم (17)، ولد عام1882، و حصل على جائزة نوبل في الفيزياء عام 1954 عن ميكانيكا الكم، كانت وفاته عام1970.
ثم يأتي بعده غريم آينشتاين و هو العالم (نيلز بور Niels Bohr)، و يحمل الرقم (18)، و هو من المنادين بقبول الطبيعة الإحتمالية في تفسير نظرية الكم، و كانت وفاته عام 1962.
أما الذين يقفون في الصف الثالث، فهم من اليسار: العالم الفيزيائي السويسري (أوغست بيكر Augeste Piccard)، و يحمل الرقم (19)، ولد عام 1884، و هو أول من اكتشف طبقة الستراتوسفير في الغلاف الجوي، و صمم أول غواصة لسبر الأعماق السحيقة في البحار و المحيطات، توفي هذا العالم الكبير عام 1962، و خلف وراءه كل مفيد للبشرية من اختراعاته المتنوعة كالمناطيد و الغواصات، و المعادلات الفيزيائية التي أنارت الطريق للأجيال القادمة.
أما العالم الذي يحمل الرقم (20) فهو الكيميائي الفرنسي (إيميل هنريوت Emile Henriot)، ولد عام 1885، و هو من تلاميذ مدام كوري، و يعود له الفضل في تطوير المجهر الالكتروني، و كانت وفاته عام 1961.
ثم يقف إلى جانبه العالم النمساوي (بول اهرنفست Paul Ehrenfest)، الذي يحمل الرقم (21)، ولد عام1880، و توفي عام 1933، لكنه و على الرغم من صغر سنه كان من أشهر علماء الفيزياء في عصره.
و يقف إلى جانبه العالم البلجيكي (إدوارد هيرزن Edouard Herzen)، الذي يحمل الرقم (22)، و هو من مواليد عام 1877، تخصص في الكيمياء الفيزياوية، و هو حفيد الكاتب الروسي (الكسندر هيرزن)، تبوأ أرقى المناصب العلمية عام 1921، و توفي عام 1933.
و يقف إلى جانبه عالم الرياضيات البلجيكي (ثيوفيل دي دوندور Theophile de Donder)، و يحمل الرقم(23)، ولد عام 1872، اشتق عام 1923 بعض الصيغ الرياضية للتفاعلات الكيماوية، و توفي عام 1957.
و يقف إلى جانبه عالم الفيزياء النمساوي (إروين شرودنغر Erwin Shrodenger)، و يحمل الرقم (24)، ولد1887 و توفي عام 1961، و هو معروف بإسهاماته في ميكانيكا الكم، و بخاصة معادلة (شرودنغر)، التي حاز من أجلها على جائزة نوبل في الفيزياء عام 1933، اشتهر بوضع صيغ رياضية لوصف سلوك الالكترونات في تركيبة الذرة.
و يقف إلى جانبه العالم البلجيكي (يوليوس إيميل فيرشافلت Jules Emile Vershafelt)، و يحمل الرقم (25)، ولد عام 1870، و توفي عام 1955، و كان من أشهر علماء الفيزياء في عصره.
ثم يأتي من بعده العالم النمساوي (فولفغانغ باولي Wolfgang Pauli)، و يحمل الرقم (26)، ولد عام 1900، وتوفي عام 1958، لكنه كان من أشهر علماء الفيزياء، و حاز على جائزة نوبل في الفيزياء عام 1945، و أسهم إسهاماً فاعلاً في تطوير نظرية الكم.
و يقف إلى جانبه العالم الألماني (فيرنر هليزنبيرغ Werner Heisenberg)، و يحمل الرقم (27)، ولد عام1901، و توفي عام 1976، حاز على جائزة نوبل في الفيزياء عام 1932، و اكتشف أهم مبادئ الفيزياء الحديثة، و هو مبدأ عدم التأكد، أو عدم اليقين، الذي أعلنه عام 1927. و انصبت اهتماماته المختبرية على دراسة سلوك أشعة غاما.
ويقف إلى جانبه العالم البريطاني (رالف هاورد فاولر Ralph Howard)، و يحمل الرقم (28)، ولد عام 1889، و توفي عام 1944، و كان بارعا في الفيزياء و الفلك.
و يقف في الطرف الأخير من الصف الثالث العالم الفرنسي الكبير (ليون نيكولاس بريلوين Leon Brillouin)، الذي يحمل الرقم (29)، ولد عام 1889، و توفي عام 1969، ينحدر من عائلة توارثت علم الفيزياء جيل بعد جيل، و كان من أشهر الفيزيائيين في منتصف القرن الماضي. .

Evolution Debate

Evolution is 99% scientifically proven, yet that 1% is more than just required efforts and intelligence to prove, but the acceptance that Creationism manipulates the coherence of Epistemia..


Not all concepts worth debating, although how worth exploring..


I wonder; why no one debates the Jain followers, who are 99% educated, form great portion of Indian technocrats and scientists, yet doubtlessly believe that the Earth is flat..!!


This is simply the incomprehensive debates.. Man needs at the dawn of 3rd millennia not to address everything, but wisely to choose issues of progressive concern..

Maps..!


When I read this article; I had recalled Jainism.. which its devotees strongly believe that the Earth is flat.. Jainism is a religious minority in India, with 4.2 million adherents, and there are small but notable immigrant communities in Belgium, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and the United States. Jains have the highest degree of literacy of any religious community in India (94.1 percent), and their manuscript libraries are the oldest in the country. I do epistemically understand their views; yet unwilling to discuss..!!

Projection Smackdown: Cahill’s Butterfly vs. the Dymaxion Map

In a perfect world, each map projection would be judged on its own merit and applied to the job that suits it best. But perfect worlds are boring. So why not put two projections in a good ol’ eye-gouging, tooth-chipping, back-alley fight for supremacy?

Our first matchup is between two projections that are well known among carto-geeks, but only get limited, sporadic attention from the public: The Cahill and Dymaxion projections. (You can vote for your favorite in a poll at the bottom of this post.)


This debate actually goes back to 1943, when R. Buckminster Fuller published his Dymaxion Map and proclaimed it superior to all others. Within weeks, the New York Times published a measured, indirect, and mostly ignored rebuttal, featuring Bernard J.S. Cahill’s Butterfly map. Fuller’s followers carried the Dymaxion torch blindly for decades, until Gene Keyes revived the debate in 1975 by refining the map a bit into the Cahill-Keyes projection. Keyes was a former Fuller acolyte himself, but was so moved by Cahill that he wrote a 46-page dissertation about the butterfly’s superiority. But Fuller’s legacy is strong, and the Dymaxion map has fresh vigor even now in the year of its 70th anniversary.

At a glance, both projections look like flattened Dragon Dice, but a comparison of the two is likely to stir up more nerd-rage than a top-ten list of the world’s worst dice. OK, so maybe this will be more thoughtful discussion than shirtless brawl, but these two projections were destined to go head-to-head.

Bernard J.S. Cahill lived in California in the early 1900s. He had many a beef with Mercator maps. In his 1909 paper introducing the butterfly, he spent the first five pages airing his grievances. For example, of the projection’s effect on South America he wrote: “The lower part is dragged down and thickened in appearance until the most beautiful of all the continents is deprived of much of its symmetry and elegance.” If you needed to navigate an ocean-voyage, Mercator was fine, but if you wanted to learn geography, the projection made continents look like thick-jawed, big-headed carnival caricatures.

As a remedy, he proposed skinning the globe into eight triangular lobes, a method invented by Leonardo Da Vinci. Rather than arrange them into a clover, as Da Vinci did, Cahill made a butterfly shape. He was interested in balance, and obsessed with his projection’s aesthetic. And his math was not too shabby either. The lobes – also called gores – are each exactly 90 degrees wide and run 10,000 km along the edge. There is practically no distortion along the edges of each lobe. The lines of latitude and longitude shrink towards the middle of each lobe. The overall effect is a map that can be scaled to any size, and errors that are easy to calculate and correct. Oh, and it looks absolutely beautiful.

R. Buckminster-Fuller once described himself as a “comprehensive anticipatory design scientist,” which sounds like the winning caption for a Cringe-Inducing Personal Branding contest. But Fuller actually lived up to his self-hype. He tackled housing, poverty, the environment, education, transportation, and energy. He’s best known for popularizing the geodesic sphere that lives on in such late 20th century icons as Epcot Center and the Astrodome.

The Mercator Projection was a mote in Fuller’s eye, too. He allegedly spent decades on his projection, eventually publishing it in 1943. Rather than go with one of the dozen highly regarded geographic journals of the day, Fuller unveiled his creation on the pages of Life magazine as a cut-and-paste project (true story).

He called it the Dymaxion map, a portmanteau that is supposed to evoke the words “dynamic, maximum, and tension.” Fuller projected the globe onto a modified isocahedron — Some of the 20 triangles on its face have been fused into squares, others are split in half. Like Cahill, he owed his invention to an early Renaissance genius, Albrecht Durer, who proposed the first unfolded isocahedron in 1538. Bucky loved the fact that he could present “Spaceship Earth” as a continuous archipelago, unbeholden to conventional notions of which way the continents should face.
No lie, it’s a cool way to view the world, but is it the best?

Because the 20-sided shape touches the globe at every vertex, both area and direction are nearly perfect throughout the map. Or, as the Buckminster-Fuller Institute website proclaims, “The Dymaxion projection is the only flat map of the entire surface of the Earth which reveals our planet as one island in one ocean, without any visually obvious distortion of the relative shapes and sizes of the land areas, and without splitting any continents.” That sentence is a masterpiece of superlatives, but has some well-concealed caveats. Consider the part about “no visually obvious distortion.” Depending on your definition of obvious, the map has a pretty serious flaw: too many triangles.

Islam may includes intellectual guidelines and glimpse of scientific merit.. which some brilliant Muslim scholars had taken to the next level of understanding, knowledge, innovation and "useful" creativity..

Islam has set a restrict code on time, not to be wasted in non-useful efforts or activities.. Muslims are compulsory obliged to witness Allah swt in all their thoughts, deeds, and activities..

A Human Egg...!

Rare and startling film has been captured of a human egg emerging from the ovary.

Fertile women release one or more eggs every month, but until now, only fuzzy images had been recorded.

The new images were taken by accident by gynaecologist Jacques Donnez while carrying out a partial hysterectomy on a 45-year-old woman.

The release of an egg was thought to be a sudden event, but the pictures published in New Scientist magazine show it takes over 15 minutes for the translucent yellow sphere to emerge.

“The release of the oocyte (immature egg cell) from the ovary is a crucial event in human reproduction. These pictures are clearly important to better understand the mechanism,” Donnez, from the Catholic University of Louvain in Brussels, said.

Shortly before the egg is released, enzymes break down the tissue in a fluid-filled sac on the surface of the ovary that contains the egg. A reddish protrusion forms and then a hole appears from which the egg emerges.

The egg is surrounded by supporting cells, which protect it as it enters the Fallopian tube on its way to the uterus.

Professor Alan McNeilly, from the Medical Research Council's Human Reproduction Unit in Edinburgh, told the BBC: "It really is a fascinating insight into ovulation, and to see it in real life is an incredibly rare occurrence.

It really is a pivotal moment in the whole process, the beginnings of life in a way."

Rare and startling film has been captured of a human egg emerging from the ovary.

Fertile women release one or more eggs every month, but until now, only fuzzy... images had been recorded.

The new images were taken by accident by gynaecologist Jacques Donnez while carrying out a partial hysterectomy on a 45-year-old woman.

The release of an egg was thought to be a sudden event, but the pictures published in New Scientist magazine show it takes over 15 minutes for the translucent yellow sphere to emerge.

“The release of the oocyte (immature egg cell) from the ovary is a crucial event in human reproduction. These pictures are clearly important to better understand the mechanism,” Donnez, from the Catholic University of Louvain in Brussels, said.

Shortly before the egg is released, enzymes break down the tissue in a fluid-filled sac on the surface of the ovary that contains the egg. A reddish protrusion forms and then a hole appears from which the egg emerges.

The egg is surrounded by supporting cells, which protect it as it enters the Fallopian tube on its way to the uterus.

Professor Alan McNeilly, from the Medical Research Council's Human Reproduction Unit in Edinburgh, told the BBC: "It really is a fascinating insight into ovulation, and to see it in real life is an incredibly rare occurrence.

It really is a pivotal moment in the whole process, the beginnings of life in a way."

The root-cause of current supply deficiency is ignited and ruled by lack of professional and scientific competences to counter-fight both uncontrolled population growth vs. declined habitual resources.. Despite the flood of degree holders worldwide, particularly in underdeveloped countries, hurdles are growing fast, indicating bureaucratic and operational barrenness.. Academia needs to restructure itself, roles and responsibilities.. Excellence is uplifting the people in reality not in those dumb research papers.. Regretfully, this dumbness is the only condition that unites the world.. yet, the maturity of some civil societies enables controls rather than amusement..!!
Politicians are products of their societies.. I don't advocate of visionary as mandate for public service, but of opportunism as practical grounds for the post-hunt.. Therefore, degree-holders are the unspoken change catalyst at each household, community and street; who justify and empower revolt against the norms.. There is no change if we reconcile with our Norms.. Typically, an immigrant fails and returns back, if holds his birthplace as intellectual model.. Scientific Forefathers had paid their lives as prices for change.. Today, we love our lives much more to scarify for both righteous and good.. Therefore, we spiral and circle, endlessly..!

The Arrogance of a Well-Fed Society

Every time I write an article about population growth or poverty, I receive at least one e-mail insisting that there are too many humans on the planet. That erroneous statement is usually followed up with a not-so-subtle suggestion that letting a few people starve to death wouldn’t be a terrible thing, but instead would actually make the planet a safer, richer and more sustainable place.
Not many things shock me anymore. But the arrogance and callousness of a well-fed society toward those who are less fortunate always leaves me stunned.
What is particularly frustrating is that both sides of the political spectrum claim to be the true champions of the poor – while simultaneously endorsing policies that disproportionately harm them.
The Left repeatedly insists that climate change is the world’s #1 problem, and this has distracted us from the world’s actual #1 problem: Poverty. About 1.3 billion people don’t have electricity, meaning they also don’t have adequate access to food, healthcare or the Internet. Essentially, such communities are condemned to a life of indefinite poverty. Providing them with cheap electricity is a compassionate, progressive thing to do.
Or at least it was at one time. In an article posted on New Geography, Michael Shellenberger and Ted Nordhaus explain how the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) “established the progressive principle that cheap energy for all was a public good, not a private enterprise.”
Why is it necessary to make cheap electricity a public good? Because it helps end the vicious cycle of poverty. The authors describe the stark reality of life in the American South in the 1930s:
Eighty years ago, the Tennessee Valley region was like many poor rural communities in tropical regions today. The best forests had been cut down to use as fuel for wood stoves. Soils were being rapidly depleted of nutrients, resulting in falling yields and a desperate search for new croplands. Poor farmers were plagued by malaria and had inadequate medical care. Few had indoor plumbing and even fewer had electricity.
The TVA helped change this. Cheap hydroelectric power lifted residents out of poverty and even helped restore the environment.
Therefore, providing cheap electricity to the 1.3 billion people without it should be a top global priority. Solar and wind power should be implemented if possible, but not all locations will be amenable to that technology. And that means it will be necessary to burn more fossil fuels in some locations, even though more people will die as a result of air pollution. But given a choice between a life of poverty (and all the hazards that come with it) versus a chance at a more prosperous life (albeit one with an increased risk of lung cancer), most people in the developing world would probably choose the latter, even if that upsets climate-obsessed progressives in the rich world.
On the Right, conservatives need to give up their ideological opposition to birth control. While the world is not overpopulated as a whole, overpopulation does cause issues at the regional level. (That is why I like to say the world is not overpopulated, but rather “maldistributed.”) For instance, only so many people can live in the U.S. Southwest before water shortages become a routine problem.
At the behest of President George W. Bush, the United States implemented a program called PEPFAR (President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) that was rightfully praised for saving millions of Africans from HIV. But the program was criticized for doing little (perhaps even undermining efforts) to provide women with birth control. But, cheap birth control – just like cheap electricity – is an important tool to help end the vicious cycle of poverty.
To truly help developing societies, we need to answer their immediate needs. That is far more compassionate than trying to shape them into the societies we would like them to be.

The Multi-Billion Dollar Brassiere Industry

The recent preventive Double Mastectomy of Angelina Jolie; had kicked off a debate  on perceptions of Feminism and Aesthetics as well. It is not only about the conventional sexy looks of a woman, but also on the cost of her own fitness and health. Alike most issues, the Millennia Generation had already put many given thoughts and concepts on new trails towards different mindset and consensus. However, such issue of Bra-or-not is irrelevant for many females in Africa and Asia. Among nomad and rural, such urban code or luxury is not interesting nor concerning. However, the decency of non-swinging breasts is almost agreeable, not because of anything, but intrrupting attention..!!
 
 
 



French Scientists Suggest Women Should Stop Wearing Bras

Women have bound their breasts since antiquity, for modesty’s sake or to conform to an aesthetic ideal. Exposing the breast for human survival in breastfeeding is supposed to be kept politely minimal, even with the known multiple benefits of breastfeeding.
 
In the Western world, women avoid the free-swinging breast, a point of view encouraged by the multi-billion dollar brassiere industry. That began to change in the 1960s, when the Women’s Liberation movement proclaimed brassieres to be as oppressive as the corsets our grandmothers wore. Still, the majority of today’s women continue wearing the bra, conforming to societal norms and to fashion. Recent research conducted in France may influence women to change their minds again.

Professor Jean-Denis Rouillon, professor at the University of Franche-Comté in Besançon, recentlt concluded, after a 15-year study of 330 women, that supporting breasts in a bra helps not at all, neither “medically, physiologically nor anatomically.”
 
Rouillon argues that chest muscle and ligaments that support the breasts atrophy over time if the breasts’ natural motion is restrained by a bra. He claims that the women under study actually developed stronger supportive muscle while going bra-less. (Breast ligaments, which give the breast elasticity, do not regain tone as muscle does; like rubber bands, once they stretch out, they remain limp.) Rouillon proved his claim by the research participant’s nipples lifting 7mm towards the shoulder in one year. According to Rouillon, the women’s breasts became firmer and stretch marks faded.
 
Apart from wishing to improve the silhouette, women should be asking questions about bras versus female health. Some defenders of the no-bra cause claim that bras restrict the drainage of the axillary (armpit) lymph nodes. Lymph nodes help move bacteria, dead viruses and other blood toxins out of circulation. The implication is that these toxins simply stay in the armpit and breast area when a bra is worn, degrading health.
 
Others say that bras retain the heat naturally generated by the breast during movement, thereby increasing the chance of inflammation of the breast tissue and subsequently, cancer. With breast cancer rates rising almost visibly, it may be worth investigating that idea.
 
Although these issues are valid and deserve more research, there are no definite answers to anti-bra arguments based on health concerns. Respected institutions like the American Cancer Society invalidate the theory that bra-wearing increases chances of getting breast cancer. Proponents retort that as parallels between lung cancer and smoking were vigorously denied for decades by bodies with big financial interests in tobacco, so does the brassiere industry have interests in squashing that theory.
 
In the meantime, Rouillon is reluctant to advise all women to take their bras off. He said that the research participants didn’t represent the population at large – his study was conducted on women between the ages of 18-35. Further, he says that older women who have worn bras since early adolescence would gain nothing from removing their bras.
 
Presumably, Professor Rouillon means that if it’s too late to rebuild breast-supporting muscle, a woman might as well look good in her clothes and wear a bra.

End of Men..!!

In the last few years various experts have come up with predictions for the 'end of men'.
What they tend to mean is that traditionally male qualities - strength, single-mindedness, machismo - are less important in the modern world. By the 'end of men' they really mean the end of traditional male roles in society.

So what’s scary about the latest expert prediction is that she really does mean the end of men. As a gender, we’re finished physically, she claims. And it’s all down to biology.

What does she mean by the end of men?
The prediction of male extinction was recently made by Professor Jenny Graves, a scientist at Canberra University in Australia, who believes the inherent fragility of male genes has put us on a slippery slope to a man-free world.

She cites the state of male and female chromosomes to back up the theory. The female X chromosome contains a healthy 1,000 or so genes and women have two of them.
Compare that with the male Y chromosome, she says, which started off with as many genes as its female counterpart, but today boasts less than 100. The rest have fallen away over millions of years of evolution.

What’s more, men only have one Y chromosome and one X, which means each finds it harder to repair itself than the twin X chromosomes women possess.

“The X chromosome is all alone in the male but in the female it has a friend, so it can swop bits and repair itself,” said Professor Graves. “If the Y gets hit, it’s a downward spiral.”

She also described the remaining genes on the Y chromosome as being mostly “junk”.
So what does this mean for men? Well, she reckons that in five million years or so ‘man’kind will be no more, and women will have won the battle of the sexes in the most fundamental way.
Five million years sounds a decent innings, admittedly, but the worry is that the process is already well under way. Some experts blame chromosomal differences, and the weakness of the Y chromosome, for the difference in average lifespans between men and women.

Other meanings of 'the end of men'
That longevity gap between the genders has also been blamed on male self-destructive behaviour, from drinking and smoking too much to driving fast cars and getting into fights. And what many social scientists believe is that some of these behaviours will get worse as the other interpretation of the 'end of men' comes increasingly into play.

Men won’t actually go extinct, but our future looks less than rosy, they say. Women are doing better at school and university than men. The jobs of the future will be increasingly about good communication skills and emotional intelligence, and less about strength and dominance.
“It may be happening slowly and unevenly, but it’s unmistakably happening: in the long view the modern economy is becoming a place where women hold the cards,” writes Hanna Rosin, author of The End Of Men.

The result is that, already, men are three times more likely than women to take their own lives. They’re more likely to be dependent on drugs or alcohol. They’re more likely to be unhappy loners without supportive social circles.
In other words, there are now two distinct but overlapping theories about the end of men. In one, we will eventually become extinct because of an inherent biological weakness that already affects our longevity. In the other, men won’t die off, but we will become increasingly irrelevant.

Men will bounce back
That’s one way of looking at it, at least. But others claim predictions of the end of men are wildly overplayed.
Even in Professor Graves’ gloomy scenario, five million years is a long time for medicine to catch up and shore up our dodgy Y chromosome. Professor Graves herself thinks men may not actually die out, but morph into an entirely new species of human, with a new chromosome taking the place of the crumbling Y.

And it seems that men are beginning to address their self-destructive impulses and counteract the effect a weak Y chromosome has on longevity. The latest research suggests that a boy alive now can expect to live to 87. It also suggests that, if current trends continue, in the near future men will have the same life expectancy as women.

Explaining these findings, professor Leslie Mayhew of City University, London, said: “There has been a huge decline in the numbers working in heavy industry, far fewer males smoke than before and there is much better treatment for heart disease, which tends to affect more males than females,”
In other words, the end of traditional male jobs might actually be doing us some good.
Of course, our supposed social and economic irrelevance seems more of a worry, but even here there are signs that men are adapting to their changed circumstances. In some academic areas, boys are beginning to close the gap again with girls at school and college, and unfair though it is, men still earn, on average, 15% more than women in the UK.

On top of that, British psychologist Dr Mark McCormack believes men - and young men especially - are adapting psychologically, too. They’re forming more “emotionally rich” friendships and “embracing their softer sides”, he says.
So is it the end of men? In five million years, perhaps. But for now, weaker chromosomes or not, it seems unlikely. Many men face grave challenges in the new social and economic order, but slowly, steadily and without fuss (in a very manly way, you might say), men may be starting to bounce back.
