Civilization dies by default
Urbanization is the Antidote for Civilization to live
If we don't get Urbanized
We don't have a Survival Civilization..!

The 1st Sign of Civilization

Civilization is the unwritten contract and agreement among persons to look after each other as everyone is a contributor to the welfare of the community. This mutual and bilateral behavior is resultant of early realization that no one can survive alone from the group; regardless of his knowledge, muscles or magic..

Battlefield Surgery

The romans are main topic in my own quest about Sustainable Civilization
I already know how much they concurred, mastered and invaded
I realized how they set a demise between Roman and Latin
Roman for who ever shared or forced into their Empires
Latin for their distinct ethnicity..!
Yet, their legacy had been sustained across centuries.. Till date
They affect modern timers and times..
Therefore, we have to ask: why?
Below, part of the answer..!

Bouteflika and Others..

Lexical Distance

This chart shows the lexical distance — that is, the degree of overall vocabulary divergence — among the major languages of Europe.

The size of each circle represents the number of speakers for that language. Circles of the same color belong to the same language group. All the groups except for Finno-Ugric (in yellow) are in turn members of the Indo-European language family.

English is a member of the Germanic group (blue) within the Indo-European family. But thanks to 1066, William of Normandy, and all that, about 75% of the modern English vocabulary comes from French and Latin (ie the Romance languages, in orange) rather than Germanic sources. As a result, English (a Germanic language) and French (a Romance language) are actually closer to each other in lexical terms than Romanian (a Romance language) and French.

So why is English still considered a Germanic language? Two reasons. First, the most frequently used 80% of English words come from Germanic sources, not Latinate sources. Those famous Anglo-Saxon monosyllables live on! Second, the syntax of English, although much simplified from its Old English origins, remains recognizably Germanic. The Norman conquest added French vocabulary to the language, and through pidginization it arguably stripped out some Germanic grammar, but it did not ADD French grammar.

The original research data for the chart comes from K. Tyshchenko (1999), Metatheory of Linguistics. (Published in Russian.)

Sudanese Nostalgia

I can see how lazy, unproductive and short-sighted we are..!!

That Khartoum was built by British and Egyptian, not Sudanese..

Stop Dreaming, Nostalgia and Don-Kechuotism..!!

Arabic Islamic Civilization

I do not endorse associating Islam to Arabic Civilization, unless associating Christianity to European one.. Hindu to Indian, Buddhism to South Asian, Jewish to American or Communism to Soviet..!!

Religions are Codes of Ethics, which would generally advise on behavior, obligations and integration.. They appreciate hard sincere effort, they endorse peaceful social values and recommend law and order..

Islam may includes intellectual guidelines and glimpse of scientific merit.. which some brilliant Muslim scholars had taken to the next level of understanding, knowledge, innovation and "useful" creativity..

Islam has set a restrict code on time, not to be wasted in non-useful efforts or activities.. Muslims are compulsory obliged to witness Allah swt in all their thoughts, deeds, and activities..

This why all Civic Properties were attached to Mosques..
Not the vs. versa as many would think..!!

London and Fog

Many years ago, when I was an active teenager, I had suddenly discovered the beauty of "Gray Clouds"..! That was in a winter time of Cairo 1972: the birth of my "London" dream..! I had attempted to study, travel and settle, but these were too big dreams for a Sudanese teenager.. Decades later, I was able to serious pursue.. inshaallah

Along the years, more reasons and rationales had made me attached to this Megapolis.. Not on the urbanity I realized later, but those features synonymous to it
Yes, Gray and Dark, which had made many migrants and few native depressed..
Yes, Wet and Unpredictable that made outdoor planning a controversy..
Yes, Downtown is Old and Tight, which is not accustomed to private cars..

Maybe, because my "Black" genes make my eyes sensitive to brightness.. I feel more fresh, alert and awake at the "Gray" scenes..
However; undoubtedly, colors and shades are more visible and meaningful at Cloudy rather than Sunny landscapes..

Cold and Wet weather had enforced better build solutions, which inevitably developed different courses of economic, industrial and business growth.. Enforcing inventions and innovations that are based on forensic and empirical referrals..

Similarly, the Cold and Wet offer no opportunity for laziness or relaxation.. Therefore, Britishness is about being prepared, walking fast, and embracing order.. These qualities had accustomed the mindset and intellectual foundation of both society and individuals.. Communal necessities are shared or granted for active citizens, in order to sustain the performance of the national capitalist setup..

There are great differences between the British in-migration policies and the other "conceptual" European ones, particularly the "open" French..

Early British adventures around the world had developed early concepts of compulsory engagement and discretional vulnerability.. This how the Britishness became a cultural concept, still rejected by EDL and others.. People of Roman, Spanish and Russian heritage were the early to mix on the ground, followed by Caribbean, Indian and Americas.. The key is the bilateral defuse and melt rather than protectionism.. Also, these are the traps which had produced "Ghettos" within UK landscape..

....

The famous Turkish writer Mehamet Muratilden had said:
"London and Fog; when these two come together; it is time to be a Writer.."
The time he spent studying in UK, had continued to live with him..!!

The Urbanity Martyrs..

P1190407

Certainly the curve of Urbanity is wider than that one of Civilization..
Civilization may scores despite the atrocities within; but Urbanity can't..
It had took the Global Urbanity all history of humanity to get where it is today..
During the time, several mighty Civilizations had been born, grown and died or practically aging towards death..
Yet the value of Global Urbanity will continue spreading, gaining influence and stamping domination..
As how many had fallen down to develop our patriotism.. as time comes to call for honoring the Urbanity Martyrs..!

In memory of the victims of the West-Gate of Nairobi..!

Ross Langdon / Elif Yavuz

September 23, 2013

This morning I slammed down the phone hard and burst into tears when told of Ross Langdon’s death in Kenya at the Nairobi mall. The screams that came out were guttural and intensely grief stricken.

He was a much loved local lad. He was a colleague and friend who went out into the world as an architect doing wondrous things. Yet Ross always returned to his family and cultural roots here on the Tasman Peninsula and we all took immense pride in both his architectural abilities and his very generous, positive, and loving personality. There just was no dark side to Ross that I ever saw in the twenty or so years I knew him.I would always bring up Ross as an example of how a young person — growing up in a rural setting — benefited from this closer connection to nature than could be had at the more “elite” urban schools.

He designed  – pro bono —  an aids hospital in Kenya. Being in his early 30′s he had already given a TED talk. In Uganda he designed and supervised a unique eco-village employing only local labour. There is much, much more. For one so relatively young, the list of achievements is long.

Let me just mention this, however: Ross was about to start on a $35 million museum centered around the earliest fossil record of humanoids walking: two adults and one child. Ironic, because equally tragic is that his partner Elif Yavuz and their unborn child (due in two weeks) were also killed in the massacre. When they visited me at Windgrove a year and a half ago, Elif had just completed a PhD at Harvard; last month she was personally visited by Bill Clinton in her role with the [Bill] Clinton Health Access Initiative based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

A week ago I wrote about how talented people needed to move out of their comfort zones and get involved with changing the world before the ongoing “unraveling” tipped into the No-Return stage. For me, and a big reason for today’s grief, is that Ross and Elif symbolized the sort of people doing the Work. They were agents-of-change in the best sense.

Both had dedicated their lives to working for a peaceful world. Both had so much to offer.
Besides a personal loss for myself, this is a major global loss. This cannot be underestimated or glossed over by the political pundits who will label Ross and Elif and their unborn child as unfortunate casualties in the war on terror.

Yes, I have been punched in the stomach. Yes, I have collapsed emotionally. Yes, I am not feeling particularly happy or even “forgiving”.

But there is another Yes. And this is a bigger “yes” that says — in honour of Ross and Elif — I will eventually pick up the pieces and continue on with the sort of work they themselves were so involved in: bringing about change to a tattered world based — not on religious grounds or economic gain — just a pure love for all of humanity and the natural world.

Ney Nava

NeyNava and Song of Compassion are two pieces by leading Persian composer Hossein AlizadehNeyNava (written 1983) is a concerto for the ney, which is the breathy Middle Eastern flute, and a Western string orchestra. It represents a meeting of East and West, not only in the instruments but in the writing: traditional Middle Eastern music does not use harmony or counterpoint but instead relies on the very complex and usually improvised development of melodic figures for its interest. In NeyNava Alizadeh has attempted to work out an explicit harmony based on the intervals of those traditional Persian figures. The experiment is an undeniable success. While the strings sound at moments like a number of Western composers -- Rimsky-Korsakoff, Vaughan Williams, and Shostakovich, to name a few -- they do not so consistently resemble any single one of them as to be accused of being derivative. And the strings dovetail with the rich timbre of the ney to create a mood that is foreboding yet large-souled. While most of the piece is on the slow and dreamy side, it closes with a movement entitled "Sufi Dance" that is more sprightly and which weaves the fascinating texture of two neys together with bold gestures from the strings. With Song of Compassion (composed in 1991) we enter a completely different sound-world. Instead of the soothing sound of the ney against the familiar background of Western strings, we are assaulted with Persian lutes, zithers, fiddles, winds, and drums. An orchestra of such instruments sounds anything but sweet and smooth, and of course that's the beauty of it. Song of Compassion was written to commemorate the victims of the 1990 earthquake in northern Iran. It's not a go-quietly-into-the-night requiem, however, but a cry of desperation, of suffering, of compassion for that suffering, switching between impassioned vocalists throughout. The third movement, for example, "Depth of Catastrophe," starts with a heartbeat-like tattoo upon the drum and builds to the male singer performing a stylized scream. In the movement "Song of Compassion" we hear what sounds like a Western tympani and a Persian tombak drum accompanying a woman's wordless song of comfort. The subtitle of Song of Compassion is "Composed for Orchestra of Indigenous Instruments of Iran." The piece features Iranian instruments, like the double-reed sorna that are rarely heard in Persian classical music, as well as instruments borrowed from Iranian Azerbaijanis, like the dayeré frame drum. The variety of instruments provides something for the ear to chew on, offsetting the fact that the pace of the piece is consistently midtempo. ~ Kurt Keefner

Translating Fatima Ali

Every now and then I meet curious people who come up to me and ask… How does it feel to be black in Egypt? More interesting than my answer to the question, however, were their own ideas surrounding it.
The speculations and suppositions range from overdramatic exaggerations of abuse, to happy feel-good pat-you-on-your-back flat-out denials of the existence of racism and its impact, to a suave and an educated watering down of existing racism from both Egyptians and white expats alike.
So when I ran across Fatima Ali’s piece a couple weeks ago I was happy to translate it.
Though it’s essential that this narrative be given to the Egyptian Arabic audience it was addressed to first (which is why I leave it in Arabic too), her situation is much larger than Egypt as girls painted darker shades everywhere from Brazil to Holland to the United States can relate to the hyper-sexualization, the denial of legitimately belonging to our faiths, and the constant ridicule we receive for having the audacity to walk into a room and be black at the same time.
So such a story should be added to the canon of the writings of the women of the African diaspora who can not only relate to this story but carry this story and stories like this with them every day wherever they go. Hers is one of the many voices which could easily go untranslated and often do here in Egypt…
* Note: I am by no means a professional translator, my Arabic is quite average, and the writer speaks in Egyptian slang quite liberally so until a real Arabic-speaker becomes so angered with this translation and he or she slams their mouse down and furiously edits this, you will have to settle for this unique creation of mine.
That said, I invite all suggestions, corrections, and contestations!*

The Diary of a Black Girl (2) A girl is pretty and black and not veiled!!
License for Acceptable Harrassment

A lot of people have talked about the harassment problem girls face on the street… Today, I am going to tell you all about the verbal and the sexual harassment and also add to this the “ethnic” harassment that also appears on the beautiful Egyptian street.
What I mean, for example, is I am walking on the street and a group of guys insult me with the worst choice of obscenities possible and while I’m walking in the middle of all this stupidity, one dog from the group says to me “Come on Mother Theresa! You Christian! You daughter of a “f**ker!”
First, I don’t know how he decided that I am a “Mother Theresa.” Could it be, for example, because I am black so it must be that I am Christian?  Or is it because I am not veiled? Ok , let’s presume I am a Christian… Still why would he insult me? I mean if I was a Christian girl with a “normal” appearance and wearing a big cross would they still insult her on every little street corner? The truth is that it doesn’t happen to Christian girls all the time and even if it were to happen it would be one time in the month not every day.
What I’m trying to tell you all, is that in just one day when I am on the street I hear these kind of insults more than I hear my own name. Once, I found someone saying as I was walking “Those blacks they are very good in bed and very hot.  Here one comes!”
The strange thing about all this is that when they see me, they are very confident to a large degree that maybe I really will go with them because I really need this because I am “hot for it” all the time and of course he would just be doing a favor for me… This goes without saying that he pictures that all black girls are naturally prostitutes…
But it’s not just this…. Have you ever seen a girl in the street and people are pulling her hair and laughing at her, this girl, who is our God’s creation… This also happens to me all the time, indeed it happens in the street or in the metro or any place that I find myself between a pack of idiots.
This is because it must be that these blacks don’t have hair so of course I am wearing a wig and the matter is after all their business. They want to be sure of this so what do they do?  Naturally, they must take it upon themselves to pull the wig! And when they pull the wig and it falls they enjoy it! And simply the black girl, our God’s creation, is left with no other choice but to enjoy it with them when the wig falls….
Another time, I was walking in the street with one of my friends that look “normal” and not at all eye-catching or conspicuous-looking and she hears people say in a loud voice “How did you all even become friends?! ” as if I was from Mars and my friend from Venus and transportation between the two planets is prohibited.
Still another time, I was walking on the street with my fiancé who is also “normal- looking” and we found someone hollering at us. “Hey sheikh!” he said to my fiancé “This is great shame for you! It’s forbidden! You are white and she is black!?” And don’t even begin to ask me what that means!
Have you tried standing in the metro before and all the people are talking about you loudly? One says “Hey man these blacks their smell is always very bad and I don’t know what they are doing to themselves for them to smell like that… I know that the people do things to improve their smell, but they don’t do things to make themselves smell bad…” Another one says “Hey man all blacks are Christians… I swear all of them!” Another one says to you “You are very black!” Then… suddenly the telephone rings, speaking “normal” and like a human, I speak.  I find that everybody is suddenly silent and not one of them continues to talk because, of course, they all imagined that I am from the country of Honolulu and I don’t speak “normal” Arabic like them…
I’ll end all this with the time that I was once riding the metro and sitting next to the window and a huge spit fell on my right side of my forehead above my eyebrows… Really, ask yourselves, is it possible for any “normal” citizen to find themselves in this situation from nothing? Everyone, pray to the Prophet quietly when you see a black or dark person when any of these things happen to him then watch your own behavior and remember me.

Has the sexual revolution been good for American women?

25 Signs American Women Are Being Destroyed By The Sexual Revolution And Our Promiscuous Culture

By Michael Snyder, on January 21st, 2013

Lady Gaga - Symbol Of The Modern American Woman

Has the sexual revolution been good for American women?  Not at all.  In fact, when you look at the facts it becomes clear that the sexual revolution has been an absolute disaster for American women.  In the United States today, men have been trained to primarily view women as sex objects, and our culture has become exceedingly promiscuous.

As a result, the United States leads the world in teen pregnancy, there are 19 million new STD infections every single year, more than half of all children born to women under the age of 30 are being born out of wedlock and we are witnessing the systematic breakdown of the family unit in America.  And yet anyone that tries to teach our young women that they should dress modestly and keep themselves pure for marriage is severely criticized.

Well, if all Americans actually did keep themselves pure until marriage, we wouldn’t have nearly the problems with STDs, teen pregnancy and abortion that we do today.  The consequences of teaching our young women that they should be “free” to run around and sleep with a whole bunch of different men have been dramatic.

The following are 25 signs that American women are being destroyed by the sexual revolution and our promiscuous culture…

#1 There are 19 million new STD infections in the United States every single year.  Approximately half of them happen to young people in the 15 to 24-year-old age bracket.
#2 It costs the U.S. health care system approximately $17,000,000,000 every single year to treat sexually transmitted diseases.
#3 There were more than 1.4 million cases of chlamydia reported in the United States in 2011.  An astounding 33 percent of those cases involved Americans that were younger than 20 years of age.
#4 It is estimated that about one out of every six Americans between the ages of 14 and 49 have genital herpes.
#5 24,000 American women become infertile each year due to undiagnosed STDs.
#6 In the United States today, approximately 47 percent of all high school students have had sex.
#7 Sadly, one out of every four teen girls in the U.S. has at least one sexually transmitted disease.
#8 According to one survey, 24 percent of all U.S. teens that have STDs say that they still have unprotected sex.
#9 Amazingly, one out of every five teen girls in the U.S. actually wants to be a teenage mother.
#10 If you can believe it, the United States has the highest teen pregnancy rate on the entire planet.  In fact, the United States has a teen pregnancy rate that is more than twice as high as Canada, more than three times as high as France and more than seven times as high as Japan.
#11 When men don’t have to wait until they get married to have sex, then they are likely to delay marriage or never get married at all.  According to the Pew Research Center, only 51 percent of all Americans that are at least 18 years old are currently married.  Back in 1960, 72 percent of all U.S. adults were married.
#12 Today, an all-time low 44.2 percent of all Americans between the ages of 25 and 34 are married.
#13 In the United States today, more than half of all couples “move in together” before they get married.
#14 The divorce rate for couples that live together first is significantly higher than for those that do not.
#15 America has the highest divorce rate on the globe by a wide margin.
#16 For women under the age of 30 living in the United States today, more than half of all babies are being born out of wedlock.
#17 At this point, more than one out of every four children in the United States is being raised by a single parent.
#18 Approximately 42 percent of all single mothers in the United States are on food stamps.
#19 The sexual revolution has caused women to be primarily looked at as sex objects.  In this kind of environment, it should be no surprise that there has been an absolute explosion of pornography in recent years.  An astounding 30 percent of all Internet traffic now goes to pornography websites, and the U.S. produces more pornography than any other nation has in the history of the world.
#20 One survey discovered that 25 percent of all employees that have Internet access in America visit sex websites while they are at work.
#21 Overall, more than 50 million babies have been killed in America since Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973.
#22 When you total up all forms of abortion, including those caused by the abortion drug RU 486, the grand total comes to more than a million abortions performed in the United States every single year.
#23 The number of American babies killed by abortion each year is roughly equal to the number of U.S. military deaths that have occurred in all of the wars that the United States has ever been involved in combined.
#24 It has been reported that a staggering 41 percent of all New York City pregnancies end in abortion.
#25 One study found that 86 percent of all abortions are done for the sake of convenience.

So what can be done about any of this?

Unfortunately, turning our culture around would not be an easy thing.  Loose sexuality is glorified on television, in the movies, on our radios and in our magazines.  Just about everywhere you turn there are very powerful sexual images.

The following is an excerpt from a recent article by Devvy Kidd
America’s culture has come a long way since the 60s. For decades it has resembled a filthy sewer and shows no signs of returning to decency. Children are being sexualized with markets targeting little girls as young as kindergarten age. Cable television (which includes ABC, CBS, NBC) has become nothing more than a purveyor of soft porn. Sexual imagery is everywhere. The filth used to be confined to porn channels like HBO, Cinemax and others which I have never had in my home. Now, it’s the ‘big three’ (ABC, CBS, NBC) and all the other networks that consistently pump sin and sex into households every night of the week.

Meanwhile, we have raised an entire generation of young males that don’t know how to be men.  Our culture has taught them to be extremely hesitant to be husbands and fathers, and instead it has taught them to be sex-obsessed idiots that want to “score” with as many women as possible.
As long as our culture pushes these values, we will continue to suffer the kinds of consequences listed above.
So what do all of you think about these things?
Do you believe that there is any hope for America?
